從進食與培植的過程，不禁讓人要發問：

人真的可以因為擁有設計、創造工具的能力，

所以也就連帶擁有宰制其他生命的權力與權利嗎？

對許多人而言，觀賞《沉默的食物》一片，應該不會是愉快的經驗，甚至會感到陌生與遲疑，因為這部影片就如中譯片名一樣，從頭至尾，完全地，沉默。沒有任何對話，只有機器操作的聲音隱隱成為畫面之外的配音，而機器的聲音，對一般人而言，即便不是噪音，也不會是令人愉悅的音聲。

此外，本片的畫面，也充斥著如實記錄屠宰現場的血跡斑斑，雖然有影評人稱之為「暴力美學」，但基本上，很難讓人感受任何與美有關的感官印象。

被譯為《沉默的食物》的本片，原名 Our Daily Bread，為導演尼可拉斯‧葛霍特（Nikolaus Geyrhalter）所拍攝的紀錄片。雖然是紀錄片，但由導演鏡頭的掌握與剪接的次序，仍然可以讀出導演意圖安排與呈現的對照。
